4.2. Networking

4.2. Networking DNSSEC The bind and unbound (recursive DNS servers) now enable DNSSEC validation in their default configuration. DNSSEC Lookaside Verification (DLV) is also enabled with the dlv.sc.org DLV Registry. This behavior can be modified in /etc/sysconfig/dnssec by changing the DNSSEC and DLV settings. With DNSSEC enabled, when a domain supplies DNSSEC data (such as .gov, .se, the ENUM zone and other TLD's) then that data will be cryptographically validated on the recursive DNS server. If validation fails due to attempts at cache poisoning, for example via a Kaminsky Attack, then the end user will not be given this forged/spoofed data. DNSSEC deployment is gaining speed rapidly, and is a crucial and logical step to make the Internet more secure for end users. DLV is used to add DNSSEC signed domains into TLD's that themselves are not yet signed, such as .com and .org. TigerVNC TigerVNC is used as default VNC project. Package names were changed to tigervnc, tigervnc-server and tigervnc-server-module. Binary names are the same as in previous versions. The libvnc.so module has been moved to the tigervnc-server-module subpackage. Otherwise there should be no difference.

4. Changes in Fedora for Desktop Users

4. Changes in Fedora for Desktop Users 4.1. Fedora Desktop 4.1.1. GNOME Gnome-panel Previously, users could move the gnome-panel to from one part of the desktop to another by clicking on the gnome-panel, dragging it to another location while holding down the mouse button, and releasing the mouse button. Now, users must also hold down a key on the keyboard while moving the gnome-panel. By default, this modifier key is the Alt key, but users may change it to any other key by using the windows preference tool (System>Preferences>Windows). This change in behavior greatly reduces the chances of a user accidentally moving the panel, and makes moving the gnome-panel the same as moving windows in GNOME.

GNUstep - Everything is so ... square and gray.

(via)
What is it? GNUstep (this is a live CD, an operating system, a distribution) contains a lot of software for GNUstep, a free implementation of the OPENSTEP framework (which was also the base as Cocoa in Mac OS X). It includes an excellent application called Gorm for RAD (Apple Software Design Guidelines). More about the Objective-C Language. More on OPENSTEP and GNUstep. Why? The currently used window manager is Window Maker. Read this very informative article about what GNUstep is. If you are an OPENSTEP, Cocoa developer and want to port your software to GNUstep and release it as Free Software, contact me. More what is questions answered. Still not impressed, read this? Read great documentation. Hopefully soon with a microkernel and a more usable approach to OS design. History about the Lighthouse Design Ltd.. List of all packages on the CD.

gNewSense Official Website : Free as in freedom | Builder / HowToCreateYourOwnGNULinuxDistribution | browse

(via)
HowToCreateYourOwnGNULinuxDistribution Filed in: Builder.HowToCreateYourOwnGNULinuxDistribution · Modified on : Thu, 28 May 09 As part of creating gNewSense, we created our Builder which allows for the creation of a new GNU/Linux distribution based on Ubuntu Hardy. From a simple config file you can choose the name of your distribution, release, tagline and what packages you'd like to be installed/removed by default. Graphics will be automatically generated. These scripts are obviously biased towards producing gNewSense, but should provide a good base to work off. Note that there is no need to follow these steps to use gNewSense, you can download an iso from one of the Mirrors. You'll need at least 80GB of free disk space, and preferably a very fast Internet connection (you'll be pulling 40GB of data). This can be run on any Debian derivative capable of bootstrapping Ubuntu Hardy (8.04). All commands must be run as root. If you have any queries, please drop into our IRC channel. This is still very much beta software.
